Speedlight Workshop – Some Photos

By Andrew Mason

Our last speedlight workshop happened on a rainy Saturday, no problem there then, just extra creativity needed! We managed to stay warm(ish) and dry, and workshop attendees were able to coax the best out of their speedlights, despite the rain.

The following photos from the speedlight workshop are by David Spink www.davidspinkphotography.com. They show that flash lighting need not be overpowering and artificial, it can be used to add a subtle boost on a dull day, and give shots a more professional edge. The black and white conversions work well too.

In these first two shots, the background is deliberately dark, by manually setting the camera for slight ambient under exposure, and then we added some fill to the face of our model using off camera flash into an umbrella.

And, we did a little experimentation with movement and flash. David achieved some unique shots.
